Adam Levine has been showing his full support of the Black Lives Matter movement and the protests happening all over the country. However, people have not forgotten that Maroon 5 played at the Super Bowl halftime show last year despite how the NFL treated Colin Kaepernick when he kneeled in the name of the same movement.
As you might remember, a number of celebrities refused the invitation to perform in support of Colin and also boycotted the event altogether but Maroon 5 accepted the invitation to sing during the halftime show.
Kaepernick was pretty much blacklisted by the NFL after he started the ‘taking a knee’ protests meant to bring awareness to racial injustice in America.
After the murder of George Floyd and the protests that followed, the league decided to finally apologize for not listening to Kaepernick that there was a real racial issue and also treating him unfairly.
We, the NFL, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of Black People. We, the NFL, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest. We, the NFL, believe Black Lives Matter. #InspireChangepic.twitter.com/ENWQP8A0sv

As you can imagine, people were not too happy that Adam took the gig and now that he has been posting about the BLM movement, many accused him of being hypocritical.
Last year, someone even started a petition for users to keep commenting on Levine’s posts until he finally apologizes for singing at the Super Bowl.
The Change.org petition reads: ‘The band has the chance to stand on the right side of history. If they do not, they’ll be remembered for choosing to side with NFL over its players. Colin Kaepernick sacrificed his NFL career to call out violent racism in America.’
At this point, the petition has more than 113k signatures!
Seeing how Adam has been posting about the movement in the last two weeks after the murder of Floyd, the petition was updated to also read: ‘I was alerted that he has been posting on Instagram about social justice, but when he had the chance to not perform during the Super Bowl in protest to the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick, he folded! We even asked him to #TakeAKnee during the show, but he and his guest artists never did.’
Ultimately, the petition stated that he needs to acknowledge his mistake for a real change to happen and for his stance now to matter.
As you can imagine, many users made sure to tell him the same in the comments!
