Alex Brown From Gorilla Biscuits Passes Away At 52-Years-Old

Alex Brown, who used to play guitar for the New York punk band, Gorilla Biscuits, tragically passed away at 52-years-old. The hardcore punk rocker was announced as dead by the band’s frontman, Anthony Civarelli, who stated that Brown had died due to natural causes following a basal ganglia stroke.

In an Instagram post announcing the news, Anthony wrote that the earth had lost a very special person. The singer went on to deliver a very tragic message in which he said that he lost a friend of over 30 years as well as a bandmate.

The singer admitted that a “piece of his heart” died when he found out that the man he worked alongside for so many years had died. He said that all he could think about was all of the great memories they had together.

“There will never be another Alex Brown.” Civarelli went on to say that there would be a memorial service in Iowa. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1966, Alex was known for not only being in a band but also for being a respected painter.

He studied art at the Parsons School of Design in New York reports Brooklyn Vegan. Moreover, he also helped created the label/fanzine Schism and performed in bands like Project X and Side By Side. He joined Gorilla Biscuits just in time for their second album in 1989.

In addition to the frontman who wished Brown’s family well, the bass player in the band, Arhurt Smilios, paid tribute to Brown when he wrote, “I’m going to miss you, Alex.”

Smilios said that Alex has been his brother since they were just kids, and it was heart-wrenching to know that he would never get the chance to see Alex again.

Gorilla Biscuits has long been known as a legendary band in New York’s punk-rock scene. Originally formed in 1987, around the same time as the beginning stage of the grunge movement, they released a record, Start Today, which ended up being the biggest hit for the record label, Revelation Records.
