Alex Trebek Says He 'Seemed A Little Slower' After Watching His Performance On Jeopardy! GOAT Tournament, Admits He's Thinking About His Final Show

Jeopardy! is currently in the middle of airing its biggest tournament ever, The Greatest of All Time, in prime time on ABC. But, host Alex Trebek – who revealed last year that he is battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer – says that after watching his performance on the special, he can tell that he’s “a little slower.”

The GOAT tournament features three of the best and most successful Jeopardy! contestants in the show’s history – Brad Rutter, Ken Jennings, and James Holzhauer. The three are battling it out to find out who is the greatest of all time, and they are all wearing purple ribbons during the contest to show their support for Trebek.

But, the 79-year-old host admitted at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour this week that he wasn’t at his best during the taping. Trebek said that after watching the tapes with his wife, he asked if she noticed anything out of the ordinary. She said that she didn’t notice anything at all, but he did.

“I seemed a little slower in the ad-lib portions. I could still deliver the clues, but I feel that I was not having one of my best weeks,” Trebek shared.

He added that he’s currently suffering from his second cold in two months, and he has another test this week. Trebek said his doctors got him off the chemo drugs, which were “killing” him, and he says he has good days and bad days.

Trebek told Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan during the recent special What Is Jeopardy? Alex Trebek and America’s Most Popular Quiz Show that he has been thinking about his retirement and planning for his last show.

The legendary game show host – who has hosted Jeopardy! since 1984 – said his final episode will be a “significant moment.” He also revealed that he has already rehearsed it in his mind, and thought about what he would do on that day.

Trebek said he will tell the director to time the show so he has 30 seconds at the end, and that’s all he wants. He said he will say his goodbyes and tell everyone not to ask him who will replace him because he has no say in that whatsoever. Then, he will end his final show by saying:

“But, I’m sure that if you give them the same love and attention and respect that you have shown me, then they will be a success and the show will continue being a success. And until we meet again, God bless you and goodbye.’”

Alex Trebek made it clear that he doesn’t think those 30 seconds are coming anytime soon, and he has no plans to retire at the moment.

Jeopardy: Greatest of All Time is currently airing weeknights in prime time on ABC.
