Alicia Keys, Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, And Jada Pinkett-Smith, Dazzle At Grammys With Tribute To Music

Let’s cut to the chase. Michelle Obama received a standing ovation when she joined Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Jada Pinkett-Smith at the 61st Grammy awards. The women spoke about how music matters, how it connects and heals, and how it empowers. Speaking about the different genres of music, the women said that all styles need to be represented and respected.

When the women spoke, they commanded full attention in the room, but the love and adoration for Michelle Obama was undeniable. As Michelle Obama spoke, the applause increased into thunderous applause and as the cameras spanned the crowd, there were many who stood with tears in their eyes.

The public and press were unaware that the First Lady would attend the Grammys, especially since she’s been busy with her book tour.

The surprise was welcomed and praised by many.

Alicia Keys and Michelle Obama are friends and it was easy to see how well the two get along.

Alicia first introduced the Grammys, spoke, then welcomed the women on stage with the following greeting.

“Music is what we all love, music is what it’s all about. Everybody is out here shining and I’m so proud to bring us together to honor this moment because music is what we cry to, it’s what we march to, it’s what we rock to, it’s what we make love to. It’s our shared global language.”

Michelle Obama stated the following.

“From the Motown records I wore out on the South Side to the “Who Runs the World” songs that fueled me through this last decade, music has always helped me tell my story, and I know that’s true for everybody here. Whether we like country, or rap, or rock, music helps us share ourselves, our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys. It allows us to hear one another to invite each other in. Music shows us that all of it matters — every story within every voice, every note within every song, is that right ladies?”

The global theme Alicia Keys spoke about has been an evident theme throughout the Grammys.
