Amy Schumer Reveals She's Undergoing IVF To Give Son Gene A Sibling

Just eight months after giving birth to her son Gene, comedian Amy Schumer has revealed that she is undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) so she can give her son a sibling. The Trainwreck star posted a pic on Instagram this week to show off her bruises from the IVF treatment, plus her C-section scar from her first pregnancy.

In the caption, Schumer wrote that she is one week into IVF, and she is feeling “really run down and emotional.” She also asked if any of her 9.5 million followers had already gone through IVF and would be willing to give her advice or share their experiences.

“If anyone went through it and if you have any advice or wouldn’t mind sharing your experience with me please do,” wrote Schumer. “My number is in my bio. We are freezing my eggs and figuring out what to do to give Gene a sibling.”

Last fall, Schumer revealed that she now has a dedicated phone number for fans – 917-970-9333 – and she encouraged them to text her and promised to write back. She explained that she started the number to have a more personal experience with the people who like her, even though that “sounds super creepy.”

Schumer was extremely candid about her difficult pregnancy when she was carrying her son. She and her husband Chris Fischer welcomed Gene in May 2019, and during her pregnancy she was hospitalized with hyperemesis gravidarum, which is a form of acute morning sickness.

The Inside Amy Schumer star had to deal with the condition throughout her entire pregnancy, and she was vocal on social media about the lack of research and funding when it comes to women’s health issues like hyperemesis and endometriosis.

Just days before she gave birth, Schumer posted a pic to let her fans know she was “still pregnant and puking.” At the end of 2019, Schumer posted a pic of herself with Fischer and their son, and she wrote in the caption that it was the best year of her life, even though she spent half of it vomiting every day.

Amy Schumer has become an advocate for working moms in recent months after she struggled to go back to work herself, despite her privilege of being able to afford a nanny. And, after giving birth to her first child, she has also started to focus on women’s issues like proper maternity care and paid maternity leave.

“Christy Turlington [Burns] started this charity called Every Mother Counts and they raise money to help women have a midwife or doula with them when they give birth,” Schumer told People magazine. “Because sometimes they’re just at home by themselves. It’s real grim. I have so much privilege, and it was still so hard for me to go back to work.”
