Andy Cohen Sadly Says Goodbye To Rescue Pup Wacha, Rehomes The Dog To Keep His Son Safe

Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen revealed this week that he decided to say goodbye to his rescue pup, Wacha, in order to keep his one-year-old son Benjamin safe. In an Instagram post, Cohen shared that he rehomed Wacha after he started to show “some occasional random signs of aggression.”

“I’ve put off sharing this news as long as I could,” wrote Cohen. “As you may know, Wacha is my first baby, my beautiful rescue puppy. He is my pride and joy. When he came into my life, my world changed. Over the nearly seven years that I’ve been blessed to have Wacha in my life, we have worked to address some occasional random signs of aggression.”

Cohen explained that no effort was spared in the attempt to adjust Wacha to life with a toddler. After an incident a few months ago, Cohen says he contacted numerous professionals about the situation and they all advised him that his home is “simply not a good place” for the dog.

“Keeping him here could be catastrophic for Ben and worse for Wacha,” said Cohen. “The good news is that he now has a permanent home with his second family, in the place he lived every single time I went out of town. He is thriving.”

The Bravo star said that he will still see Wacha, but a piece of his heart is now gone. He explained that he will miss Wacha’s weight on top of him first thing in the morning, and he will also miss Wacha waiting for him in front of the shower.

Cohen says the dog changed him and he is not the same person he was when he got Wacha, as he opened him up to love and caring and ultimately having a family. The St. Louis native concluded his message by saying that he and Wacha were meant to come into each other’s lives exactly when they did, and now that the dog is happy it gives him peace of mind. When it comes down to it, they rescued each other.

After Cohen welcomed Ben via surrogate in February 2019, his dog trainer Brandon McMillan explained why the Bravo star kept the dog around his baby. McMillan said that he knows the dog very well, and he has seen him with Ben.

“My professional opinion: Wacha is very safe with your kid, so everybody out there who suddenly became a dog trainer on the internet, please shut the hell up!” McMillan said during a WWHL episode.
