Anna Wintour Addresses The Controversy Over Kamala Harris' Vogue Cover

After the whole controversy regarding Kamala Harris‘ Vogue cover, it looks like Anna Wintour is speaking out and defending it! Here’s what she had to say!

As you might know, this past weekend, the famous magazine confirmed that the Vice President elect was going to, indeed be on their latest issue’s cover after an image leaked on social media before the publishing.

People criticized the magazine a lot over one of the pictures, which showed Kamala in a blazer, pants, as well as accessorizing with a pearl necklace and a pair of Converse sneakers – her favorite type of footwear!

What a lot of critics were not too happy about was the fact that the image looked really washed out as well as the fact that she was so casually dressed and posed.

Here are some of the reactions to it: ‘Kamala Harris is about as light-skinned as women of color can be and Vogue still f**ked up the lighting. WTF is this washed out cover?’ / ‘This photo is washed out, poorly lit, and stagnant, junk. How could you do such a disservice to such a vibrant, beautiful woman? Shameful.’

While on New York Times’ Sway podcast, Anna Wintour defended the cover, saying that Vogue ‘wants nothing but to celebrate Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ amazing victory and important moment in American history in particular women of color all over the world. There was no agreement about what the choice of the cover would be. And when the images arrived at Vogue all of us felt really strongly that the less formal portrait of the vice-president-elect reflected the moment that we were living in, which we were in the midst of, as we still are of the most appalling pandemic that is taking lives by the minute.’

The Vogue editor in chief went on to explain that the team really felt like, in order to reflect such a ‘tragic moment’ in history, a much less formal picture was needed.

She needed to look real and approachable, something the whole Biden-Harris campaign already focused on.
