Stephen Amell’s time on Arrow is officially coming to an end. The actor, who portrays Oliver Queen on the show, took to Facebook to confirm that Season 8 will be the last for The CW’s hit superhero drama.
In an emotional Facebook Live session, Amell revealed that he decided to walk away from the show because he needs to spend more time with his family. The series is primarily filmed in Vancouver, Canada, and now that Amell has a wife and child living in Los Angeles, being away from his family for long periods of time no longer works.

“A large part of this decision is because I’m now a father and a husband and a lot of my life and interests don’t really reside in Vancouver anymore and thinking that’s the best thing for me personally and professionally,” Amell explained.
According to People, Amell started the conversation about leaving the series in May of last year. The actor talked with executive producer Greg Berlanti about his future plans, noting that he would like the series to end on a high note.
Amell told fans that he likes it whenever television shows end at the right time and do not keep churning out seasons because they can.
Following his discussion with Berlanti, the two agreed to end the series in Season 8. The CW has yet to announce when the final season will begin, but we do know that it will be shorter since everything is wrapping up.
Although we have officially reached the end of Arrow, Amell is confident that its sister shows will survive. This includes Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, all of which have developed strong fan bases.

It is unclear if Amell will ever reprise his role as the Green Arrow in any of the spin-offs, but he did tease that he might reprise the role at some point in the future.
In closing, Stephen Amell thanked his family for putting up with his hectic schedule and for fans for always supporting the series.
New episodes of Arrow air Monday nights on The CW.
