August Alsina was at the top of the R&B charts a few years ago touring the world. After fans noticed that he strayed further and further from the spotlight, it was revealed that he was battling an autoimmune disorder.
The singer was scheduled to perform his hit songs at Essence Fest when he was suddenly hospitalized for the disease that attacks his liver. He made a video for his fans explaining exactly what’s going on and why he missed his performance.
‘Hi guys, it’s August. As you can probably tell, I’m in the hospital. So, here’s the stitch: I woke up one day and wasn’t able to walk. I couldn’t feel my legs and my doctor ended up admitting me into the hospital.’

The musician added that after undergoing multiple tests, he found out that he has nerve damage throughout the body causing him to lose his mobility. Although it’s a saddening situation, August is keeping positive.
‘It’s like my immune system went on vacation. So, I’m just waiting on it to come back and we can get together and it can do what it do, man.’
In the caption of the video, he apologized to his fans.
‘Hiiii guys!! 😂It’s me, being my most awesome, weirdly great self. 🤦🏽♂️I’m here with the stitch 🗣 & to also apologize for not being able to make the essence fest gig last night.
