Former President Barack Obama is telling Democrats precisely what to do to defeat President Donald Trump in 2020.
Some voters are worried the long list of presidential hopefuls will not listen, while others believe that he might be calling out fresh face Democratic lawmaker Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
Over the weekend, the beloved public figure delivered a viral speech at an Obama Foundation town hall in Berlin, Germany.
Mr. Obama issued a stern warning to liberals who are eager to form what he described as a “circular firing squad” within the Democratic party.
The former Illinois senator said: “One of the things I do worry about sometimes among progressives in the United States, maybe it’s true here as well, is a certain kind of rigidity where we say, ‘Uh, I’m sorry, this is how it’s going to be,’ and then we start sometimes creating what’s called a ‘circular firing squad,’ where you start shooting at your allies because one of them has strayed from purity on the issues. When that happens, typically the overall effort and movement weaken.”
Obama pleaded with the politicians in Washington to stop viewing the word compromise as a curse word.
He went on to list his most significant accomplishments policy wise while in offices such as the Affordable Care Act and the Paris Climate Agreement as examples.
He also stated: “You have to recognize that the way we structure democracy requires you to take into account people who don’t agree with you. That by definition means you’re not going to get 100 percent of what you want.”
Mr. Obama addressed the rise of hate crimes and white supremacy in America that now “divides us into them and us” and has created a hostile and unproductive environment.
The former president’s comments come days after his former vice president, Joe Biden, released a video addressing the women who called him out for touching their shoulders and kissing their hair.
Biden also spoke to reporters on the matter saying: “I’m sorry I didn’t understand more. I’m not sorry for any of my intentions. I’m not sorry for anything that I have ever done. I have never been disrespectful intentionally to a man or a woman. So that’s not the reputation I’ve had since I was in high school, for God’s sake.”
Biden is expected to join the very crowded Democratic primary field with about 20 other politicians who are in the running for the 2020 election in hopes to take on Mr. Trump in the general.
