"Beetlejuice 2" Probably Won't Happen Explains Director Tim Burton

According to acclaimed director Tim Burton, the chances of a “Beetlejuice 2” movie coming out anytime soon are slim. Burton recently sat down in an interview with USA Today where he revealed the chance of the movie coming to fruition, even after it was previously announced seven years ago.

Currently, Mr. Burton is promoting his newest film, Dumbo, which reunited him with the original Beetlejuice star, Michael Keaton, for the first time since they worked together in the 1989 flick, Batman.

When he was probed on the topic, USA today claims he didn’t appear very enthusiastic at the idea of the movie’s creation. “I don’t know, I doubt it,” Mr. Burton explained, before going on to wave away any other questions regarding the matter.

In a statement from Warner Brothers, the spokesperson, Candice McDonough said, officially, that the movie wasn’t in “active development,” despite reports from seven years ago.

In the past, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder indicated they were interested in starring in a sequel to the movie, along as Tim Burton was the one to direct the project. When Winona appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers in 2015, Ryder said she would be in the sequel if asked.

Burton added he would do the film as well, as long as it were “under the right circumstances.” Originally, Burton wanted to create a sequel to the movie which would see Beetlejuice go to Hawaii. However, due to the Batman movie which came exactly one year later, Burton and Keaton forgot about it.

Despite the fact the sequel never came about, an animated series was created in its honor. It was executive produced by Mr. Burton, and it ran for approximately four seasons on ABC and Fox. Moreover, there’s also a documentary coming out about Beetlejuice‘s creation.

Some fans online have suggested for filmmakers to simply leave the franchise alone, considering the first one was serendipitous, and the chance of capturing such magic again is unlikely.
