It’s never a good idea to go out with your best friend’s ex-girlfriend, but it doesn’t look like Matt Damon had much choice in the matter. This week, Damon went out to dinner with Ben Affleck’s ex-girlfriend, Lindsay Shookus, but it was all business. Damon is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend, and as a producer of the long-running sketch comedy show, Shookus joined Damon and other SNL cast and crew for a dinner meeting at Lattanzi restaurant in New York City.
Earlier this season, Damon portrayed Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh in sketches that aired during his confirmation hearing, so he and Shookus have worked together before. However, an insider says that Damon was not a fan of her relationship with Affleck because he thought she was “controlling and manipulative.”

After dating for about a year, Shookus and Affleck broke up in August because the Gone Girl star couldn’t stay sober.
“Lindsay had been supporting Ben’s sobriety and going to meetings with him. She had him in meditation, and they were doing it together,” says an insider. “His recovery was something that was very important to both of them.”
The source added that it was hard for Shookus to break up with Affleck, but she realized that he wasn’t getting better and she needed to step aside. She tried to stay as close to him as possible to help keep him on the right path, but ultimately, she knew that he needed to hit rock bottom.
However, during Affleck’s recent problems with drugs and alcohol – and his latest stint in rehab – Damon didn’t go anywhere. He stood by Affleck’s side the entire time.
“I’ve known him for 35 years, and we grew up together,” the actor told Entertainment Tonight. “We were both in love with the same thing — acting and filmmaking. I think we fed on each other’s obsession during really formative, important years and that bonded us for life.”

Affleck recently finalized his divorce from Jennifer Garner and returned home from treatment at a Malibu rehab facility. He has been keeping a low profile and continues to co-parent his three children – Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel – with his ex-wife.
Cameras have recently spotted Affleck picking up his kids from school and attending church with Garner and their children.
Ben Affleck has also gotten back to work, and his new movie Triple Frontier – a thriller about five military veterans who rob a drug lord in South America – will be in select theaters in March 2019. And, it is also scheduled to premiere on Netflix.
