According to a report from Us Weekly, Ben Stiller didn’t skip a beat when it came to showing just how much he appreciates the talent and skills of his father – Jerry Stiller – while collecting his victory at the 71st Annual Director’s Guild of America Words on Saturday, February 2nd.
When taking the stage, Ben, the creator, and star of the cult film, Zoolander, described it as being a “dream come true” for him. The 53-year-old, before reporters and those in the audience, said he has dreamed of being nominated for such an award since he was an eight-year-old boy.
Near the ending of his speech, the actor proclaimed, “To my dad, Jerry Stiller, the most naturally funny man in the world.” This comes just a few weeks after Jerry Stiller was rushed to the hospital in January for a medical issue.
Radar Online was the first to report that the 91-year-old man was recovering in a Manhattan hospital after the incident. A source who spoke with the outlet, Us Weekly, said that Jerry was doing well, and he didn’t show any signs of having a stroke.
As most know, Ben and Jerry worked alongside each other in the film mentioned above, Zoolander. In the cult comedy, in which Ben played a simple model named Derek Zoolander, Jerry played his agent, Maury Ballstein, a foul-talking Jewish manager with years of experience in the fashion industry.
The film has since gone down in history as one of the most underappreciated comedies, which critics have blamed on its release date around the events of September 11th, 2001. Jerry also portrayed Arthur on The King Of Queens from 1998 until 2007.
In 2015, Jerry’s wife, Anne Meara, passed away at the age of 85-years-old. They had been married for a whopping 61 years around the time of her death and also had a daughter named Amy. Ben has almost never mentioned his sister.
While Ben is primarily known for his comedic roles, his directing chops have garnered him significant acclaim over the years. Notably, movies like Tropic Thunder and Reality Bites.
