Benedict Wong plays a character of the same name in the MCU, Wong. Wong first appeared in Doctor Strange and later reappeared in Avengers Infinity War and Endgame. However, ever since MCU’s phase 4 began, it seems that Wong is everywhere. He first appeared in Spider Man: No Way Home, then in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he followed it up with another appearance in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and now he has also made an appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

It seems that Wong is playing a kind of role in phase 4 that Samuel Jackson’s Nick Fury did in phase 1 of the MCU, being the one character that connects all these movies and TV series.

Furthermore, several of the projects Wong has appeared in have involved newcomers, such as Shang Chi where really the entire cast was new, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness where Xochitl Gomez made her debut and now She-Hulk: Attorney at Law the debut of Tatiana Maslany made her debut. This has gotten people thinking that perhaps Wong is the actor who has been given the job of welcoming new actors into the MCU and showing them the ropes.

Wong himself commented on this responsibility that he has undertaken while speaking to THR. He explained it in the following words:

“Yeah, it’s funny, because I remember that with Simu. When they were filming, I think when they saw me arrive, they finally realized that they were in a Marvel film. I kind of put my wax seal of approval. I mean, obviously, what can I do but say, ‘Welcome to the MCU’…And whatever learning curves and curveballs that I can add or any sort of advice, I’m always there. Especially with Xochitl as well, being just a very wide-eyed rabbit in the headlights. I think it’s kind of a duty really, being a member of a big ensemble company, to steady people and reassure them.”

Wong ha appeared in almost all phase 4 properties and his roles have been brilliant so fans aren’t complaining.
