Billie Eilish Says She Is 'Ashamed' Of Her Past Comments Amid Her Racism Scandal

During a new interview, the singer addressed some of her offensive comments, making it clear that she’s no longer that person. Billie Eilish has been in a bit of hot water lately over some resurfaced racist comments and even a video of her using a racial slur.

Naturally, fans have been waiting to hear what she had to say about it.

While chatting with Vogue Australia, Billie Eilish talked about her scandal, insisting that ‘I said so many things that I totally do not agree with now, or think the opposite.’

In other words, she claimed she’s a totally different person than she used to be in her past but is well aware that nothing disappears from the internet and that it is really hard to escape one’s past because of it.

This is especially the case for Billie since she’s grown up in the spotlight.

‘It is really weird how the world can see every aspect of your life and reminisce about [it.] The internet brings up things from everyone’s past and I am like: ‘Don’t you guys understand everybody is incredibly embarrassed and ashamed over their past? Like, do you not think that maybe you are embarrassed about your past, so maybe everyone else’s embarrassed, too?’ The weirdest thing is that how nothing ever goes away once it is on the internet. Every interview I did when I was just 15 is still out there, and I think about it constantly.’

She went on to explain that ‘When you’re a teenager, you do not really know yourself, so you are trying to figure yourself out. I did not actually know how I felt. So I came up with this facade which I stuck to.’

This comes after Billie got in trouble for a resurfaced video in which she sang along to ‘Fish’ by Tyler, the Creator, a song that includes an Asian slur.

Not only that, but she also imitated an Asian accent at some point.

In the meantime, she’s apologized, once again using her young age at the time, to explain why she did what she did, saying that she had no idea that word was derogatory and is now disgusted she ever used it.

As for the Asian accent accusations, she explained that it was not meant to be that.

Instead, it was just ‘something i started doing as a kid and have done my entire life when talking to my pets, my friends, and family. It is absolute gibberish and just me goofing around, and it is in NO way an imitation of anybody or any language, accent or culture in the SLIGHTEST.’
