Bob Iger Insinuates Filming In Georgia Will Be 'Difficult' If They Don't Withhold Women's Right To Choose

According to a report from Page Six, Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, is becoming politically involved with the state of Georgia, following revelations that Congress is supposedly gearing up to have an abortion bill go all the way up to the Supreme Court.

Mr. Iger said recently that people at Disney, including himself, are watching what happens in Georgia very closely at the moment due to the new abortion legislation the state just passed. Iger claims it would be “very difficult” to continue filming in the state should the abortion law go into effect next year.

Speaking with reporters from Reuters, Mr. Iger said many people who work for Disney likely won’t want to work there on account of their new legislation. While promoting the latest expansion at Disneyland, Galaxy’s Edge, Iger said he and the Disney team will consider pulling their business out of the state.

This comes approximately one week after the Georgia Governor, Brian Kemp, approved and signed the new abortion legislation. The law will forbid doctors from aborting a baby should the fetal heartbeat be detected, which is around six weeks into the pregnancy.

Iger suggested it wouldn’t be “practical” to shoot there, “I rather doubt we will.” As most know, Disney is one of the biggest studios in Hollywood at the moment, producing the most successful hits of the last few years, including Avengers: Endgame as well as Black Panther.

The Hollywood Reporter claims there are 90,000 residents who work in the film and television industry. There were around 450 productions last year. Other companies who are talking about boycotts are Netflix and Amazon.

Many actors and celebrities said the bill was “deeply flawed,” including Colin Hanks, Mia Farrow, David Cross, Sean Penn, Ben Stiller, Christina Applegate, Gabrielle Union, Sarah Silverman, Patton Oswalt, Rosie O’Donnell.

Their statement read that if the abortion laws were to be passed, it would force underground markets for women to get abortions, which puts their safety and health at risk.
