Brad Pitt wasn’t able to attend the 2020 BAFTA Awards in London this past weekend because of family obligations. So, when he won the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood, his co-star Margot Robbie accepted the award on his behalf and read a hilarious speech from Pitt in front of a star-studded crowd that included Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The tone of the speech was apparent from the opening line, as Pitt took a jab at both Brexit and his divorce from Angelina Jolie.
“Hey, Britain! Heard you just became single. Welcome to the club. Wishing you the best with the divorce settlement,” said Robbie as Pitt’s proxy.
Pitt then thanked the academy for the extreme honor, and explained that he has always been intimidated by the Royal Academy of the Dramatic Art and all of the titans from the UK in the film industry, and that made the award “especially meaningful.”
The 56-year-old actor thanked Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino, the film’s stunt team, the costumer designer for his “oh so tight jeans” (Robbie thanked her for those, too), and the movie’s producers David Heyman and Shannon McIntosh.
Robbie skimmed through the rest of the speech with a bunch of “blah blah blahs,” before wrapping it up with this amazing zinger: “And he says, um, that he’s going to name this [the BAFTA trophy] Harry, cause, uh, he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him.”
The Australian actress then reminded the crowd that the speech contained “His words! Not mine.”

Director: “Get that camera on them RIGHT NOW!!”

Cameras quickly cut to William and Kate and showed the Duke of Cambridge clapping with an awkward smile, while the Duchess of Cambridge looked at her husband with a laugh.
As royal fans know, last month Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their duties as senior members of the royal family, and they are splitting their time between the UK and North America.
The couple is currently in Canada with Archie Harrison, and numerous reports claim the couple is house hunting on Vancouver Island. Meghan and Harry are also reportedly looking for a summer home in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt has been sweeping the Supporting Actor category during awards season, and he is expected to attend the Academy Awards on Sunday, February 9th, where he is the favorite to win.
