Brandon Jenner has grown up having a famous last name. However, it has not always been easy being a Jenner, and the singer is getting real about how, at times, he is ashamed of his moniker.
There are several preconceived notions Brandon faces with the last name Jenner, especially as he makes a name for himself in the music business. On Friday, he appeared on Channel Q radio’s Let’s Go There With Shira & Ryan to speak on the various struggles he has faced with having such an infamous name, especially in the past few years.
“When I was a kid, I would hand my driver’s license, or my ID, when I was younger, and somebody would look at it and say, ‘Oh, are you Bruce Jenner’s kid?’ and they would want to shake my hand. It was this real sense of pride,” the father of one shared.

However, in the last decade, the perception behind his surname has changed and it has caused difficulty for him in the music industry.
“Things have changed for me a lot. Just the rise of Keeping Up With the Kardashians has changed the idea of what the last name Jenner, you know, what kind of person I’m going to be. When people hear it for the first time, or they hear my last name, ‘Jenner,’ I think that they’re quicker to write me off and not necessarily even want to give my music a chance because of it,” Brandon admitted.
The amount of fame surrounding his last name is difficult for him, especially considering his younger sister is a billionaire. Brandon doesn’t name Kylie or Kendall as reason he gets embarrassed by his surname, but the reputation surrounding them has no doubt had an impact on him.

“I sometimes am almost a little ashamed of it, because I feel like people are going to have this preconceived notion that I’m just, kind of, like a spoiled kid that doesn’t really have anything to say, right? And hasn’t struggled in their life,” the 38-year old shared.
Along with having two younger sisters that have changed the Jenner name dramatically, Bruce transitioned in 2015 and became Caitlyn Jenner. It was shocking to fans and drastically had an impact on the Jenner name. People have all sorts of opinions about the Olympian becoming a woman.
Despite struggling with his famous last name, Brandon Jenner knows it has inspired him as a musician and a songwriter. He fully appreciates the aspect the drama has had in terms of helping him grow as an artist, but it still doesn’t make it easy to be a Jenner in today’s world.
