It goes to show that the public never really knows what others in the spotlight go through. That being said, while Brittany Furlan became an influencer thanks to her ability to make people laugh on Vine, it turns out that things were not so happy in her personal life since she was struggling with severe anxiety.

Furlan, who used to be the most followed woman on Vine and was even named by Time magazine, one of the most influential people on the internet, is now one of the online celebs featured in the film American Meme.

The new Netflix production focuses on the secret lives of internet personalities, going beyond their on-camera persona and exploring what is really behind a post on social media or a viral YouTube clip.

In an interview with HollywoodLife, Furlan got candid about her struggle with anxiety, revealing that ‘It was important to me that people knew it is something which just happens, even to people who are funny or goofy, or whatever.’

She went on to explain that she simply did not want to keep on pretending that her life was ‘great’ as she had been doing for so long through her posts and comedy.

‘Everybody has their own demons, and I felt like I was living a lie if I kept pretended my entire life was perfect when every day I was struggling with this debilitating disease. I wanted to let others know I have a lot going on in my brain that makes it hard every day, and it is not what you think it is. Even if I get judged for it, it does not matter. At least I am being who I truly am.’
