Celebs Release A PSA On 'White Priviledge' - Will It Wind Up As Gal Gadot's 'Imagine' Part 2?

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, fans became enraged when Gal Gadot and approximately two dozen other celebrities sang their very own rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” mostly as a way of cheering up their massive social media followings.

Page Six reported on a new celebrity video today in which several celebrities and performing artists say that they’re “taking responsibility.” The new campaign is called, “I Take Responsibility,” and it features some of the self-proclaimed “influential voices from the white community,” explaining how they would take action for a better future.

The actors and celebs say that the campaign is designed to help turn the “racist tide in America.” Fans have thought differently, however. Page Six says that fans online are accusing the entertainment elite of trying to take a contentious political issue and make it about them and their careers.

The video features the likes of Justin Theroux, Debra Messing, Kesha, Sarah Paulson, Aaron Paul, and Bryce Dallas Howard explaining past transgressions in which they ignored some kind of “racial injustice.”

Julianne retweeted the video as well, stating that she was taking responsibility for what is going on in the United States of America today. Actors in the video say they’ll no longer stand alongside people who make racist jokes and reference other stereotypes.

Page Six picked up on one social media user who accused the video-makers of “falling back on performative nonsense.” The user went on to say that celebrities in the industry have the need to always come out as if they’re the good ones.

Other users urged the celebs in the video to stop making videos for social media and instead, donate millions of dollars to organizations that help Black people. Marlow Stern, for instance, of The Daily Beast, poked fun at the clip by referring to it as “Ending Racism: The Musical.” The tweet has since accrued more than 10,000 likes.

Additionally, fans couldn’t help themselves but point to the performances of some of the actors, including Aaron Paul, whom they claim acted a lot like Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad.

One user joked, “I thought Aaron Paul was going to shout out ‘yeah b*tch!'” Other people joked that it wasn’t that much different from Gal Gadot’s video, “Imagine.”
