While attending a Christchurch mosque shootings vigil, NYU students blamed none other than Chelsea Clinton for the tragedy. They argued that the ‘rhetoric’ of Hillary’s daughter ‘stoked’ Islamophobia.
However, it turns out that social media generally disagrees with those accusations.
Twitter users were shocked to realize Chelsea was blamed for the shooting in two New Zealand mosques that caused 49 deaths!
Chelsea was in attendance at a vigil in New York University after gunman, Brenton Harrison Tarrant, attacked the two mosques, wanting to just pay her respects to the victims.
However, it looks like a group of students at the NYU did not want her there and even thought she was to blame for what happened.
Furthermore, one student, in particular, was caught on camera confronting the 39 year old woman over some comments she had made about Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar.
‘This right here’s the result of a massacre stoked by people like you and the words you put out into the world. And I want you to know that and to feel that deeply – 49 people died because of a rhetoric you put out there.’
While the crowd could not be seen in the clip, his accusations drew some finger snaps from the people there.
In response, Chelsea said: ‘I’m so sorry that you feel that way. Certainly, it was never my intention. I do believe words matter. I believe we have to show solidarity.’
‘I’m so sorry that you feel that way,’ she added again frustrating another student that asked off camera: ‘What does that mean?’
While she was definitely cornered and slammed for her words, social media did not agree with the students.
One user tweeted: ‘This is absolute horses**t. chelsea clinton calling out ilhan omar’s anti semitism isn’t islamophobia and blaming her for christchurch is uncalled for. i am muslim and i thought omar crossed the line into anti semitism.’
‘Clinton isn’t one bit responsible for the terrorist attack in New Zealand, and it is incredibly disturbing that even one person harassed her in public and made such a ridiculous claim,’ another post out of many similar ones also reads.
