Chris Rock Stands Up For Jimmy Fallon Again - Says His 'Blackface' Impersonation Was Done With Good Intentions

Jimmy Fallon has been in trouble in the entertainment industry for an old sketch in which he wore blackface to impersonate Chris Rock. Rock recently sat down for an interview with the New York Times, a conversation during which Chris addressed the infamous skit from SNL.

Reportedly, Jimmy wore blackface during an SNL episode 20 years ago, but only recently has the late-night television show host started to experience massive backlash. The 55-year-old said to the NYT reporter that he’s friends with Jimmy, and he knows he never meant anything racist.

Rock noted that Jimmy’s intentions were in the right place, and he certainly wasn’t malicious. Rock explained how too many people, intentions don’t matter, but to him, they certainly do.

“And I don’t think Jimmy Fallon intended to hurt me,” Chris explained, before going on to say that Jimmy didn’t hurt him either. Fans of the legendary comedian know he was a member of the Saturday Night Live cast for three years between 1990 and 1993.

In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface.  There is no excuse for this.

Earlier in the summer, the 45-year-old television show host apologized repeatedly for the clip that went viral. Jimmy said he was “horrified” not because he was going to get “canceled” or lose his job, but because he didn’t know how he was going to love himself again.

Social media users began calling for Jimmy Fallon’s cancelation, even after Jimmy admitted to not having a reasonable excuse for the skit. Since then, Fallon has publicly supported the Black Lives Matter movement.

Jimmy Fallon isn’t the only celebrity to face repercussions for actions in the past in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality. Stassi Schroder and Kristen Doute also lost their jobs for calling the police on Faith Stowers.

The Vanderpump Rules alumni were fired after Faith complained about the way she was treated by both of them.

Regarding Chris Rock, the comedian was in the headlines recently when he poked fun at Jussie Smollett. The comic said Jussie wasted his “light skin” and “curly hair” with his faux-hate crime.
