That’s right! Lionsgate just announced that the comedian is to thank for a new Saw film that is set to hit theaters on October 23, 2020.

The Chairman of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, Joe Drake released a statement that says: ‘When Chris Rock came and described in detail his fantastic vision that reimagines the world of the Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in. This upcoming film will be as mind-bending and intense as all of the previous Saw films. Chris conceived this idea and it’ll be completely reverential to the legacy of the movies while reinvigorating them with his wit, creative vision and passion for the classic horror franchise.’

As it turns out, the screenplay for this new installment of the successful Saw franchise is based on a story by Chris Rock and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman.

Based on the fact that Bousman was behind the three most successful Saw movies, it is safe to say the new one will be a must-see as well.

Now to mention that Rock is also an executive producer!

About the project, the comedian said that ‘I’ve been a Saw fan since the first film back in 2004. I’m excited by the opportunity to take this to a very intense and twisted new place.’

Saw producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said in a statement that ‘Chris wants to put his own spin on Saw in the way Eddie Murphy put a fresh perspective on buddy-cop films with 48 Hours.’
