Ever since Chrisley Knows Best stars Todd and Julie Chrisley were charged with multiple counts of conspiracy, bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion, the couple has maintained their innocence. And, they have promised that the truth would come out in court. Now, Todd and Julie have scored their first major victory in their case, as the Georgia Department of Revenue has cleared them of tax evasion.
According to E! News, the Chrisley’s were accused of purposely avoiding almost $2 million in state taxes between 2008 and 2016. However, the Georgia DOR says that they actually overpaid on their tax bill for four of those years, and owed nothing for four others. It turns out, they incorrectly filed just one year, and they owe the state $77,000 in overdue taxes. But, there was no tax evasion.

Todd and Julie signed a settlement agreement with the Department of Revenue two weeks ago, and that officially ended the state’s investigation into their state tax filings.
“Julie and I knew all along that we had done nothing wrong and that when the facts all came out, we would be fine,” Todd said in a statement. “We’re just glad that the Department of Revenue was willing to keep an open mind and look at all the evidence.”
With one legal victory behind them, the couple now has to deal with the federal tax evasion charges against them for the same time frame. Their attorney, Bruce H. Morris, says that Todd and Julie are not guilty of tax evasion, and they have said that since day one. He added that the settlement with the state is “a big step in the direction of proving their innocence.”

Morris made it clear that his clients are innocent, and the allegations made against them in the indictment are based on falsehoods.
In an Instagram post, Todd wrote that this case has been a “distraction,” and he and his wife are getting back to work. He said that Chrisley Knows Best has not been canceled, and he also thanked everyone who has supported him and his family.
Todd Chrisley concluded his statement by writing that God is good, and “You can’t claim faith and still express fear.”
New episodes of Chrisley Knows Best will return to the USA network in 2020.
