Christian Siriano, Prada, Gucci, Dior, Louis Vuitton, And Many More Fashion Designers Are Now Making Coronavirus Face Masks

Christian Siriano, world-renowned fashion designer and Project Runway has sparked a global movement where fashion houses are shutting down production of their haute couture gowns and other garments and instead is creating face masks to be used in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. In addition to Christian Siriano, who is based in New York and helping health care workers meet their immediate needs, designers across the globe are creating masks for their hard-hit regions. Designers from Prada, Zara, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci,  Givenchy, Dior, and Luis Vuitton are all making masks as they assist health care workers who are battling the deadly disease on the front lines.

Christian Siriano spoke to Good Morning America about the project and he made it clear that the masks his company is making aren’t the same as those that people may be making in their living rooms across the nation. Because he is sending the masks for use in hospitals, he is following strict guidelines so they are both FDA and CDC approved. He’s also designed the face masks to be reusable and washed in bleach, while still retaining their effectiveness at protecting the wearer against the Coronavirus.

In the video, you can see his workers are staying six-feet apart while in the office and are also wearing face masks as they work. Siriano was given clearance by Governor Andrew Cuomo to open the shop and produce the masks.

Christian is also talking about the project on his social media pages, such as his official Instagram account, where he has 1.5 million followers. Christian shared a video where he walked down the stairs carrying a large box that was full of 1000, complete face masks ready for delivery. The 34-year-old’s selfless and tireless efforts have been recognized worldwide and other fashion designers have followed suit.

The news comes as the CDC is rethinking guidelines regarding regular face mask use in public by the average American citizen. Right now, the CDC urges people to save face masks for health care workers and not to buy or hoard them, particularly the coveted N95 masks.

Many peole have turned to sewing their own masks or are following President Donald Trump’s recommendations to at least cover their face with a scarf.
