The Mad Men alum revealed she was actually the hand model for the movie’s legendary poster. The star took to her Instagram account to say she used to “be a model,” sometimes even a “hand model,” along with a picture of the American Beauty poster.

She wrote, “proud to be a part of this film in any way!” Following the revelation, many of her fans and followers online appeared shocked at the news. Released in September of 1999, American Beauty was a massive success, taking home a whopping total of 5 Oscars, including Best Actor In A Leading Role for Kevin Spacey.

Produced on a budget of just $15 million, the movie went on to earn $350,000,000 at the box office. Ironically, the film’s star, Kevin Spacey, was accused of sexual misconduct in late 2017 amid the exposés on Harvey Weinstein, written for The New York Times as well as The New Yorker.

Upon its 1999 release, American Beauty was widely hailed as the best movie in American cinema that year. Particular praise was given to Kevin Spacey for his performance, Sam Mendes, as well as Alan Ball. Christina Hendricks, on the other hand, went on to star in the AMC hit, Mad Men, starring Jon Hamm and January Jones.

Amid her time on Mad Men, Christina began receiving offers for more movie roles, including alongside Ryan Gosling in 2011’s Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. She returned to the small screen in the 2010s with Tin Star and Good Girls.

Moreover, Christina has received critical praise for her body type as well, which Lynne Featherstone described as “absolutely fabulous.” The British Equalities Minister, Featherstone, said that more women of Hendrick’s body-type should be on the big and small screen.

Since Christina’s rise to fame, while not necessarily directly attributable to her, the body positivity movement has picked up steam, particularly among Hollywood actresses.
