According to a report from Vibe, Dave Chappelle is coming back to the comedy scene once again already. Dave recently announced he was releasing yet another Netflix special on the platform, following his previous four which came out in 2017.
The name of the special is Sticks and Stones, which some fans believe is a reference to the politically correct culture that people have found themselves in, especially on social media. “Sticks and Stones,” is the beginning of a classic children’s taunt: “sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me.”
To advertise the new Netflix special, the streaming company released a one-minute commercial featuring the comedian walking through a desert while a Morgan Freeman voice-over plays in the background. “This is Dave, he tells jokes for a living. Hopefully, he makes people laugh,” Morgan says in the background.
Morgan jokingly says in the clip, “how did we get here,” but rather than referring to the political climate, the narrator refers to the background in which Dave is walking: “How did Dave get here? What the f*ck is this?”
As it was previously reported, in 2017, Dave released not one but four stand-up specials in one year, including The Bird Revelation, Equanimity, The Age Of Spin, and Deep In The Heart Of Texas.
Recently, it was revealed that Dave was becoming the 5th black comedian to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor award.
The four other comedians to win the award are Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby, Whoopi Goldberg, and Richard Pryor, who took home the prestigious accolade back in 1998. Sticks and Stones will hit the Netflix platform on the 26th of August, Monday.
Dave stirred up controversy back in 2017 when he joked about transgender people taking the place of African-Americans in terms of being a “disenfranchised minority.” Dave joked that the only way black men could get to the bottom of the victim hierarchy again would be for a man in the ghetto to dress up as a woman in high heels.
