According to a report from Page Six, Dave Chappelle, the legendary comedian and host of Comedy Central’s Chappelle’s Show, was at the Marquee recently where he urged his fans to stop using their cell phones at shows.
The star was at the venue this Thursday before he was gearing up to perform at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway. The Chappelle’s Show alum‘s rules at the venue include a very strict, no-phone policy, and reportedly, the comic has been quite stringent on the rule.
A source who was at the venue said Dave was in the club and he jokingly told everyone to put their telephones down. The insider who spoke with the outlet claimed Dave arrived with a group of approximately 20 people, and they were there until around 4:00 am.
Reportedly, the event celebrated the birthday of DJ Shortkutz, and the DJ had guests like DJ Stacks, DJ Reach, Busta Rhymes, as well as Blake Griffin, who was formerly in a relationship with Kendall Jenner. Dave has been a lot more in public lately ever since the comic had a long hiatus from the public’s eye.

Chappelle recently published a Netflix special on the platform, two in fact, which were released around the same time. Dave stirred controversy for one of his jokes, in particular.
Dave took some heat from journalists and social media users for defending the legacy of Bill Cosby and what he managed to contribute, as well as new human rights’ issues, specifically, transgender rights.
Dave joked in the special that he even felt “a little jealous” of the fact black people, African-Americans, specifically, could no longer claim they were the ones who were mistreated the most in American society.
As it was noted above, Dave Chappelle disappeared from the limelight after his negative experiences working with Comedy Central on the Chappelle’s Show. Dave disappeared to Africa for a little while, and finally appeared out of the woodwork when it was revealed he was working on new material for his Netflix specials.
