Days of Our Lives star Alison Sweeney has shared some shocking news with fans. She was recently diagnosed with skin cancer.

The soap opera alum got candid with fans about sun safety, early detection, and the importance of seeing a dermatologist regularly.

Sweeney also lets fans know what is ahead for her in terms of treatment for her skin cancer. She is sharing her story in the hopes it will bring more awareness to the disease.

“So, I just got off the phone with my dermatologist. Kind of a bummer but turns out I need to have a small bump removed from my nose that came up positive for skin cancer,” began her message, which included a make-up free selfie so her followers could see the post on her nose.

Despite her doctor indicating they caught her cancer early, Sweeney went on to reiterate how imperative it is for people to get checked regularly.

“She assured me that we caught it early and I just wanted to share her advice. Check your skin for any noticeable changes and ask your doctor about it! Even if it seems like nothing, let an expert decide. Early detection of skin cancer gives you the greatest chance for successful skin cancer treatment and prevents it from developing into something more complicated. And of course, use sunscreen which I do!” the mother of two finished her message.

Sweeney will be fine, thankfully. There are a few sun spots on her face in her picture, which was the point of her posting such a candid image.

Fans quickly thanked the actress for sharing her story, as well as reminding people of the importance of getting their skin checked.
