Dennis Quaid Defends Nearly 40 Year Age Gap With Fiancé Laura Savoie

Actor Dennis Quaid is defending the nearly 40-year age gap between him and his fiancé, Laura Savoie.

Back in October, the 65-year-old actor became engaged to the 26-year-old Ph.D. student. News Quaid is getting ready to tie the knot with a woman almost four decades younger than him, raised a lot of eyebrows. Social media was a buzz about the couple, questioning the validity of the romance.

It turns out, social media is more concerned about the significant age difference than Quad or Savoie. The actor gave a rare interview to The Guardian last week, where the subject came up and he decided to share his thoughts on all the attention his engagement was garnering.

“That was really a laugh. I thought it was wonderful, actually. it really doesn’t bother us. Everyone comes from the perspective of their own life and so I can’t comment on the way they feel; I can’t even get angry. I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me. I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed. You have no control over who you fall in love with,” said the actor

Quaid is in the middle of a promotional press tour for his new Netflix Christmas sitcom, Merry Happy Whatever. The comedy is now streaming. Along with promoting his latest gig, Quaid also gave some insight into his love life, something he doesn’t do often.

“I don’t fall in love easily. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that. I’ve been married three times, and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life,” he expressed about Savoie.

The Parent Trap star and his lady love have even started planning their wedding. In fact, the Disney film had a little something to do with the venue they have chosen for their special day.

“In fact, that very day, we went to the Staglin Family Vineyard, where we filmed The Parent Trap. I hadn’t been there since 1996. So, we went, and they offered us the opportunity to get married there,” he said.

Dennis Quaid is not fazed by the 40-year age difference between him and his fiancé, Laura Savoie. He finds it funny that there has been so much discussion over their age gap on social media. In the end, though, all that matters is that he and Savoie are happy.
