Dixie Chicks Drop Their First Song And Music Video In 13 Years

In a new interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the Dixie Chicks discussed their long break following the release of their Grammy Award-winning album, 2006’s Taking The Long Way. The Dixie Chicks just dropped their new single and video, “Gaslighter,” which marks the first time they’ve published new music since 2006.

According to Martie Maguire, the fact they have nine children among them collectively played a huge role in terms of why they chose to take so much time off. Martie admitted that raising teenagers ended up being a lot harder than just raising babies.

Natalie Maines joked that “babies take you off the road,” but teenagers make you want to leave again. Interestingly, The Dixie Chicks chose not to employ the use of a team of co-songwriters and co-producers for their latest record, also titled Gaslighter.

Emily Robison claimed they worked with Jack Antonoff, and while they initially wanted to work with more songwriters and producers, they wound up just sticking with him, because they were so happy with his work. According to Variety, the country band also announced their lead single which comes out on the 1st of May.

Over the years, each member of the Dixie Chicks has created their own record and followed their own creative vision, including Maguire and Robison’s group, the Court Yard Hounds. Maines came out with an album too.

The Dixie Chicks hit the road again back in 2016, and they said it was part of the reason why they chose to come out with a new album again. While some would assume the LP comes with a political theme, it turns out that it has a lot more to do with Maines’ divorce with Adrian Pasdar.

She and Pasdar split up and finalized their divorce back in December of last year. They were married for 17 years. During her appearence on the Spiritualgasm podcast, the star claimed she had a “lot to say” following her separation.

As it was previously reported, the band won the triple crown at the 2006 Grammys, including song of the year, a record of the year, and album of the year.
