Don Lemon made headlines when he called out to celebrities to act and not just post when it came to the Black Lives Matter movement triggered by the murder of George Floyd. In a surprise Netflix special that Dave Chapelle dropped today — the comedian addressed Don’s statement.
Dave is known for his ability to mix comedy with real-world issues. When fans woke up Friday morning, they were treated with a special that was also uploaded to Youtube for free.
Chapelle recorded the gig recently and had a socially distant crow in attendance which seems to be the future of usually crowded events.
When addressing Lemon, he explained that celebrity’s opinions are not something that is at the top of anyone’s priority list right now.
‘This is the streets talking for themselves. They don’t need me right now. I kept my mouth shut. But don’t think that my silence is complicit… Why would anyone care what their favorite comedian thinks after they saw a police officer kneel on a man’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds?’
The CNN reporter agreed.
‘I actually agree with Dave Chappelle. I think that the young people who are out there in the streets don’t really care what we have to say in the establishment.’
However, he went on to explain: ‘It’s not a moment for modesty. I think it’s a moment that we should all be using our platform[s] to do whatever we can… at least to show those young people and the people out there that we support them.’
Don applauded Dave for naming his special 8:46, in reference to the eight minutes and 46 seconds the murderous officer had his knee dug into George Floyd’s neck until he passed away.
The actor also ripped into Candace Owens and Laura Ingraham and references Azaelia Banks’ claim that they hooked up — without stating if it’s true or false.
