Donald Trump Might Not Be On The Ballot In 2020 After California Governor Gavin Newsom Signed This Bill

The topic of Donald Trump’s tax returns remains a hot one in the US political sphere, especially with the upcoming 2020 election.

And while it is clear that Trump himself has not changed his stance and is not likely to budge in the slightest, some people have been making various attempts to take matters into their own hands and force the president to lay his cards on the table.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a new bill, which would specifically require Trump to disclose his full tax returns before he is eligible for being included on the primary ballot of the state in 2020.

The bill is called the “Presidential Tax Transparency and Accountability Act,” and does not explicitly refer to Trump, although its intention is quite clear.

The bill requires any person running for president — or California Governor — to submit their tax returns for the last five years to the California Secretary of State.

It is not known how the information is going to be processed regarding the public, though, and whether anyone would be able to get a glimpse into the state of Trump’s affairs.

Many have been supportive of the decision, with some calling it a bold one. Trump has not responded yet, although it will probably take a while for him to speak up about the situation.

Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said the move is “unconstitutional” and added: “There are very good reasons why the very liberal Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed this bill two years ago – it’s unconstitutional, and it opens up the possibility for states to load up more requirements on candidates in future elections. What’s next, five years of health records?”

Murtaugh went on to reveal: “The Constitution is clear on the qualifications for someone to serve as president and states cannot add additional requirements on their own. The bill also violates the 1st Amendment right of association since California can’t tell political parties which candidates their members can or cannot vote for in a primary election.”

In the meantime, there has been growing attention towards his upcoming reelection campaign, though not all of it has been positive by a large margin.

It looks like the controversial leader of the free world might face a real challenge in next year’s election.
