In yet another statement that has raised many eyebrows, US President Donald Trump has recently claimed to be in the middle of negotiations for the purchase of Greenland; this is not a joke.

Trump even shared a picture of a golden tower in Greenland by promising he would not construct one on the island.

His reasoning appeared to stem from the fact that the US and Denmark are currently allies — and because of that, Denmark would have no problem selling Greenland.

Trump even explained that he was considering the whole idea as a “large real estate deal,” and seemed to be quite serious in talking about the whole thing.

The president also added that since the US was providing protection to Denmark, that made their alliance even stronger, and therefore boosted his chances of success with this deal even further.

He then went on to explain that Greenland was actually a detriment to Denmark because the country was losing $700 million annually supporting the land.

While chatting with reporters in New Jersey, Trump said that buying Greenland was “something we talked about” and added: “Denmark essentially owns it. We’re very good allies with Denmark. We protect Denmark like we protect large portions of the world. So the concept came up, and I said, ‘Certainly. Strategically, it’s interesting, and we’d be interested. But we’ll talk to them a little bit. It’s not number one on the burner, and I can tell you that. Greenland is hurting Denmark very badly because they’re losing almost $700 million a year carrying it.”

There are currently 56,000 people residing in Greenland. Another peculiar statement made by Trump implied that he has even bigger things on the table right now than the purchase of Greenland itself, explaining that this was not the number one deal for him at the moment.

Many online commenters have pointed out the ridiculous nature of his statements, adding that Trump might want to be more careful with the comments he is making in light of the coming 2020 elections.

Denmark’s former prime minister, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, tweeted: “It has to be an April Fool’s joke…Totally out of season!”

Soren Espersen, foreign affairs spokesman for the Danish People’s Party, added: “It is the final proof that he has gone mad. The thought of Denmark selling 50,000 citizens to the United States is completely ridiculous.”

Eric Trump backed his father with a tweet that read: “I don’t know about you guys, but I love the concept of buying Greenland.”

One person had this reaction: “Ruining America isn’t enough? This is getting out of hand. This man is literally making this country something it’s never supposed to be.”

Another commenter stated: “One of the scariest things I have ever seen! You can tell he not worried about global warming!!!”

This individual wrote: “The GOLD BAR WINE BAR lit up and visible from the moon. Now there’s an idea – he should buy the moon and hopefully love there.”

A fourth comment read: “That’s pretty funny, the first time I’m laughing with this clown 🤡And by a promise not too he means he will. But luckily it ain’t for sale, so it doesn’t matter.”
