Dwayne recalled that ‘When I first got to Hollywood, they did not know what to do with me. I was half black, half Samoan, 6 foot 4, 275 pound pro wrestler. I was told at that time that you gotta be a certain way. You gotta drop some of the weight. You gotta be someone different. You gotta stop working out, and doing the things I love. You gotta stop calling yourself ‘The Rock.’’

He admitted that he believed that for years, thinking that, it was just how things worked in the industry and what he was supposed to do.

But, it was making him miserable so eventually, he chose not to conform to the industry’s requirements.

Instead, he made sure Hollywood was going to conform to him!

And sure enough, Dwayne proved everyone wrong by simply being very successful and beloved by many fans all the while staying true to himself.

The star had some advice for anyone willing to listen: ‘Yes it’s important to be yourself. But you have to recognize the joy and responsibility of bringing everyone with you. We bring everyone with us and you do that by being kind, compassionate, inclusive and straight up, just being good to people because it matters. And if you can hit that place, that is when you become influential.’

In other words, recalling a quote he heard when he was just a teen, he said: ‘It’s nice to be important but more important to be nice.’
