Elton John Calls Michael Jackson ‘A Disturbing Person’ In His New Memoir

Just months after the movie Rocketman hit the big screen to tell Elton John’s life story, the 72-year-old singer is releasing his memoir titled Me. In the book, John remembers the late Michael Jackson in the final years before his death in 2009, and he says that towards the end, the King of Pop was a “disturbing person to be around” because he was “genuinely mentally ill.”

In the book, John writes that he met Jackson when he was a teenager in the 1960s. But, it wasn’t until the 1990s that the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road singer started to realize that something wasn’t right with the pop superstar. According to Radar Online, John shares details of a bizarre lunch he had with Jackson during that time.

“The poor guy looked awful, really frail and ill,” John revealed.

He added that the Thriller singer was wearing a ton of makeup that looked like a “maniac” had put on his face, and his nose was “covered with a sticking plaster.” Things continued to get worse, as Jackson left the table “without a word,” and later, they were able to find Jackson inside John’s housekeeper’s cottage “quietly playing games” with her son, who was 11-years-old.

“For whatever reason, he couldn’t seem to cope with adult company at all,” John wrote.

Things continued to go downhill for Jackson, and John says that by the 2000s he had “totally lost his marbles.” And, he started to question “what prescription drugs he was being pumped full of.”

Jackson ended up passing away from “acute Propofol intoxication,” and his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, ended up in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter because he gave Jackson a prescription drug cocktail that killed him.

In the book, John also tells the story about how Richard Gere and Sylvester Stallone nearly got into a fight over his good friend, Princess Diana, because they were both interested in dating her after she split from Prince Charles.

“I asked David [Furnish] to go and find them. He came back with both of them, but he was wearing a fairly ashen expression, wrote John. “’Elton,’ he mumbled. ‘We have . . . a situation.’ It transpired that he’d discovered Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere in the corridor, squaring up to each other, apparently about to settle their differences over Diana by having a fist-fight.”
