Real Housewives of Orange County star Emily Simpson is currently in her sophomore season, and she recently revealed that she hasn’t watched any of her full episodes during Season 14 because it’s too difficult. Simpson says she knows what’s going on because her family members watch the show and she sees clips on social media, but she says it’s sometimes easier for her to separate herself from it completely because watching the show makes her nauseous.
“It was always hard for me to watch, even last year when Shane and I weren’t really having issues like we are this year,” Simpson told Too Fab. “I have a hard time just watching myself in general. Like, I can’t stand my voice, I can’t stand the faces I make. I guess I’m probably over-critical of myself. But this year, it was just much more personal because it’s such a bird’s-eye view into our life and marriage, and sometimes, you just don’t wanna relive that.”

Simpson said that heading into this season she knew what to expect with the production aspects of the show and the time commitments, so she was savvier with the logistics. But, with Simpson’s marriage to Shane being such a big storyline this season, she wasn’t prepared emotionally and physically.
During filming, Simpson says a lot was going on between her and Shane, and there was a lot of stress because he was studying for the California Bar Exam. With Shane being gone all of the time, and her working and taking care of three small children, “it was more draining” on her, says Simpson.
After all of the travel she did during filming, Simpson took a sabbatical from her job as an attorney during the summer so she could spend time with her kids and have some fun.
As for her marriage to Shane, she says that things are “on the up-swing now” compared to when they were filming. She says that Shane watching the show has actually been some great therapy because he has had the chance to see just how “dismissive” and “cold” he can be.
Emily feels that Shane probably wasn’t self-aware before he watched this season’s episodes because he didn’t think he had done anything wrong, like call her names or yell at her. But, after he watched himself he has put in the effort to be completely different.
The RHOC star also defended her husband’s first confessional in a recent episode where he implied that he didn’t miss his wife and kids while he was studying for the bar exam. She says that Shane is “very sarcastic” and has a “very dry personality,” but she admits the confessional didn’t look good.

Emily Simpson says that at the end of the day, it’s just a show that shows a small percentage of what goes on in her home and fans don’t get to see everything that goes down. She understands why some people think she needs to leave the marriage, but Emily says there are other sides to Shane that the show doesn’t portray.
New episodes of Real Housewives of Orange County air Tuesday nights on Bravo.
