When Gucci Mane appeared on Rickey Smiley recently, he was asked if Eminem was still the “King” of rap, and Gucci had a surprising response. The rapper joked that he needed to get a “better name” if he wanted to hold on to that title.

BET.com reported that Gucci Mane sat down for a short conversation in support of his new autobiography, and when the host asked him about the controversial rapper, Gucci insinuated that Eminem has long fallen out of favor.

Following the release of Revival and Kamikaze, the former which was heavily criticized, and the latter which was better received by fans rather than critics, Eminem’s status as a legend in hip-hop has been questioned by some rappers and fans.

Fans will remember when Machine Gun Kelly took shots at Eminem earlier this year, sparking one of the biggest beefs in the hip-hop community in 2018, next to Pusha-T’s Drake diss: “The Story Of Adidon.”

According to BET.com, Gucci Mane once “assisted” Mariah Carey in her beef with the rapper all the way back in 2009, so it looks like Gucci has, for a long time, not thought much of Eminem.

Regardless, his comments sparked quite the conversation among Gucci and Eminem fans online. Some on Twitter have argued that purely out of album sales and history in the community, Eminem’s status has long been established and always will be.

Others stated that nobody listens to his albums in their car anymore. In fact, that’s precisely the comment Mr. Gucci Mane made, asking the host if anybody even listened to his records anymore.

Gucci Mane said, “I ain’t playing Eminem in my car. You play him in yours?” According to Smiley, Eminem’s records get a chance in his car usually for the first week after a Marshall Mathers release, but then after that, he turns them right off.

Unfortunately for Gucci, not a lot of people are overly fond of his status in the scene either, arguing that his collaboration with Logan Paul was one of the lamest of all time.
