During a conversation with Elle Magazine, FKA Twigs explored her relationship with Shia LaBeouf including just how abusive it was (allegedly) and how it made her feel. Page Six picked up on the interview this week in which FKA addressed her allegedly abusive romance with Shia, which led her to file a lawsuit against the actor.

The star said during the conversation that the abuse she endured at the hands of her ex was “systematic,” and likened it to the notorious boiling frogs analogy.

In case you aren’t familiar with it, the analogy states that if you drop frogs in a pot of boiling water, they’ll jump out immediately, but if you bring the pot to a boil with the frogs in it from the start, they’ll allow themselves to die a slow-boiling death.

FKA says their romance was a lot like that because, in the beginning stages of it, she didn’t know anything was wrong. It just amped up progressively over time until she began to realize she was in too deep.

As part of her LA County Superior claim which she filed last year, FKA claimed Shia had knowingly given her an STD which she confirmed with medical analysis. Twigs shared how the STD diagnosis, for her, was the final betrayal and she wasn’t willing to deal with any more from him.

According to Twigs, she started dating the 34-year-old Shia LaBeouf not long after she got out of her romance with Robert Pattinson. The star said that the STD diagnosis which she received amid her romance with Shia was the last straw.

Twigs went on to say to the Elle journalist that it wasn’t even the way she was brought up, or how her mother raised her; it was just pure luck that she was able to get out and away from Mr. LaBeouf. These days, Twigs is dating Matt Healy, the frontman of The 1975.

According to the singer-songwriter, Shia managed to keep her in the relationship via things like “love bombing,” which means he would do nice things like buying her flowers, promise to change, and other romantic gestures after a fight.

Additionally, Twigs explained how the actor’s method of acting became a cause for concern. She says he would always bully her as if she was too dumb to understand the difficulty of being an actor, while at the same time using the acting style as an excuse to engage in behavior she thought was uncouth, like owning a gun and using it to kill stray dogs. Twigs says Shia admitted to this.
