Former 'Counting On' Star Jill Duggar Breaks One Of Jim Bob's Biggest Rules Over Christmas

Former Counting On star Jill Duggar is starting to make a habit out of defying her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle. According to her Instagram posts, Jill went behind her family’s back over Christmas and broke one of their long-standing holiday traditions – she put up a Christmas tree.

“Merry Christmas from the Dillards! #happybirthdayjesus #israeldaviddillard #samuelscottdillard” Jill captioned a photo of her and Derick Dillard’s sons sitting in front of the scandalous tree.

As Counting On fans know, Jim Bob and Michelle have a ton of strict rules for their 19 children, and one of them is that they don’t ever put up a Christmas tree. Instead, they have their own way of celebrating the holiday – they throw a birthday party for Jesus.

In lieu of a tree, they hang a huge banner that reads “Happy Birthday Jesus,” which Michelle has said helps the family focus on the real meaning of Christmas. Apparently, a decorated tree makes them lose that focus.

But, Jill’s fans were happy to see her celebrating Christmas the “normal” way.

“Personally I am glad they have a tree up. Children love lights and enjoy crafting something special to hang on the tree. Handsome boys!” one Instagram user wrote.

According to Radar Online, Jill and Derick are the couple in the family that goes against Duggar family traditions more than any other. She even voluntarily left her own spinoff (remember, it was originally titled Jill and Jessa: Counting On) when TLC fired Derick for slamming Jazz Jennings on Twitter.

Despite losing his reality TV gig, Derick has continued his controversial social media behavior by going after people he doesn’t agree with, and he has also slammed TLC for allegedly staging scenes. Through it all, Jill has chosen to remain by her husband’s side.

The couple is now living their lives away from cameras, with Derick in law school and Jill chasing her two toddlers as a stay at home mom. And, her sister-in-law Deena Dillard knew just what to get Jill for Christmas because she knows it isn’t easy taking care of young kids.

Deena bought Jill a camping-style mug that read, “Drinking coffee to keep the kids alive.”

Jill shared a pic of her present and added the caption “Thanks @deena.dillard for the mug lol #momlife, #busytoddlers, and #christmasgifts.”

Fans loved the mug so much, they started asking Deena where she bought it.

New episodes of Counting On – without Jill Duggar – will return to TLC in 2019.
