Former Hairstylist For R. Kelly Opens Up About Abuse Allegations From 2003

Lanita Carter, formerly one of R. Kelly’s main hairstylists, said that finally revealing her story after approximately sixteen years is something she had to do. The hairstylist sat down with CBS This Morning, airing tomorrow on Thursday, and spoke about the allegations against R. Kelly.

The interview is supposed to air tomorrow morning on CBS. Until now, Lanita Carter was just an anonymous accuser who never revealed her name to the public in the midst of his court battle in the early 2000s. For two years, she worked as his hair braider.

It was at that point when R. Kelly supposedly sexually abused her. Despite the fact she was hesitant about what happened with him, Carter said she no longer feels “ashamed” about it anymore. It’s something she had to tell the world.

“I was sexually abused by him,” Lanita explained, and she “lived after that;” she managed to pick up the pieces and move on. Carter said she prevailed against the odds. Referring to R. Kelly’s supposed behavior, the hairstylist said she has carried the story for years.

Moreover, Carter believes there are many people out there who still believe that R. Kelly is an innocent man, merely set up by a malicious and possibly racist media and criminal justice system. She went on to say that she couldn’t stand up for herself.

It was the recent news coverage that brought all of her feelings to light once again, and she had to tell the world what happened as a way of coping with it.

As it was previously reported, the R & B singer has been accused of sexual misconduct many times in the past, but these most recent allegations, many of which also come from the past, have permanently tainted his public reputation.

It was the Lifetime documentary, Surviving R. Kelly, which twisted the public’s perception of him into one of a beastly man, a man who takes advantage of young girls and viciously abuses them for sexual pleasure.

It was the videotape, supposedly obtained by Michael Avenatti, which led to his arrest for abusing young girls. However, it isn’t clear what his upcoming trial will hold. He was charged last month with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse.
