Friends Cast Has Mini-Reunion 25 Years After The Show's Premiere And Fans Are Begging For A Reboot

An epic selfie hit Instagram over the weekend that has fans begging for a Friends reboot. Three original stars of the show – Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, and Matt LeBlanc – posed for the rare pic just a few days after the 25th anniversary of the NBC sitcom’s premiere, and it definitely has fans talking.

“A rare night and I love it,” wrote Cox in the caption, just two weeks after the 55-year-old posted a pic of herself spending an evening with Lisa Kudrow and pals Judd Apatow, Charlie Puth, and Dan Bucatinsky.

With Friends being just as popular now as it was in the 90s, thanks to a new generation binging the sitcom on Netflix and original viewers revisiting the classic series, talk of a possible reboot has been swirling for a while. Aniston added fuel to the rumor fire when she told Ellen DeGeneres in June during an appearance on her talk show that she was on board.

“Listen, I told you this, I would do it,” said Aniston. “The girls would do it, and the boys would do it, I’m sure. Listen, anything can happen.”

However, she backtracked a few days later when she told Entertainment Tonight that saying “no” and “maybe” to the reunion rumors weren’t getting her anywhere.

“So, I thought I’d try ‘yes.’ See what would happen. Sorry!” explained Aniston.

In 2017, Matthew Perry told Vanity Fair that he has a recurring nightmare about a Friends reunion. He explained that in the dream, the cast reunites to do the series again and “nobody cares about it.” Because of that, anytime anyone asks Perry about a reboot, he says “no.”

“The thing is: we ended on such a high. We can’t beat it. Why would we go and do it again?” asked Perry.

Friends premiered on NBC on September 19, 1994, which Aniston says “feels like yesterday,” and she also revealed that the entire cast gathered together to watch the premiere episode while having no idea how much their lives and careers would change.

But, after ten seasons and 236 episodes of the original series, is a reboot something fans really want to see? David Schwimmer shared his doubts in an interview last year, saying that he doesn’t believe fans want to see the characters with walkers.

Kudrow agrees, saying that she doesn’t see it happening because she has no idea what the reboot would be about. She explained that the original series was about a group of 20-somethings who were their own family, and now they all have families.

“So, what are we going to watch,” asked Kudrow.

All ten seasons of Friends are currently streaming on Netflix until the end of this year. The series will move to HBO Max in the Spring of 2020.
