“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library,” Kevin Reilly, the chief content officer at HBO Max and the president of TBS, TNT, and truTV, said in a statement.

Reilly added that he became aware of Friends when it was in the “very early stages of development,” and he also had the opportunity to work on the series. He is delighted to see how the sitcom has caught on with viewers generation after generation.

Reilly says that the classic sitcom taps into an era when friends and audiences gathered together in real time, and HBO Max believes that the reunion special will capture that spirit by uniting original and new fans.

In addition to the statement from the streaming platform, all six main cast members posted the same Friends cast photo on their respective Instagram pages, and they all wrote “It’s happening” in the caption. The only one to do his own thing was LeBlanc, who jokingly posted a MASH cast photo instead.

Friends ran for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004, and made all of the main cast members instant superstars. After the series came to an end, the actors moved on to different projects in both television and film. But, to this day they are all mostly known for their work on Friends.

Friends was the most important and the most loved project ever for Jen [Aniston],” an insider told People magazine. “When it ended, she basically cried for days. They are all aware of how much their fans want a Friends reunion.”
