ABC has announced that they have ordered three additional episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, which means that Season 15 will now contain 25 total episodes. This could be an indication that the long-running series isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
This year, Grey’s Anatomy became the longest-running medical drama in television history, and ABC says that the ratings are better than any other show on the network.

According to a press release, “In its 15th season, Grey’s Anatomy averages a 3.1/13 among Adults 18-49 to rank as ABC’s No. 1 TV show of the 2018-2019 season.”
Fans have been speculating about what the extra episodes mean, and wondering how much longer the storylines can continue. There is also a question about how long Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) will stick around.
According to TV Insider, Pompeo was TV’s highest-paid actress in 2018, pulling in over $20 million from her starring role in Grey’s Anatomy.
In an interview last fall, Pompeo said her time on the show could be coming to an end sooner rather than later.
“I’m clearly not prepared right now to make any kind of formal announcement about what my future is on the show, but I am really feeling like we have told the majority of the stories we can tell. It’s about time that I mix it up. I’m definitely looking for a change,” revealed the actress.
Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes said that she and Pompeo have a pact that the show will exist as long as both of them want to do it. So, when Pompeo is ready to stop, they will stop. She added that as long as there are fresh stories to tell and they are both excited about telling those stories, they are in.
“So, we’ll see where that takes us,” added Rhimes.

When new episodes of Grey’s return later this month, there will be some exciting mid-season casting drama. We know for sure that Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey will be joining the show for multiple episodes, but her role is still being kept a secret.
She will be the second member of her family to appear on the series. In 2010, Jennifer’s dad Joel played a former science teacher of Izzie’s (Katherine Heigl) who was suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Grey’s Anatomy will return to ABC on Thursday, January 17th in an episode titled “Shelter from the Storm.”
