Halsey Reveals What She Almost Did For Money As A Homeless Teen In NYC

Halsey was once a homeless teen on the streets of New York City. Life before her rise to stardom got so bad that she even contemplated having sex for money. Yes, Halsey once considered prostitution to survive when she was homeless.

The ‘Without Me’ singer may be a Grammy winner and a household name now. However, her journey to singing sensation was not an easy one. On Saturday, Halsey got real about how she spent her teenage years while being honored at Ending Youth Homelessness: A Benefit For My Friend’s Place in Hollywood.

“When I was living in New York, I was a teenager. My friends were picking out decorations for their dorms, and I was debating on whether or not I should let a stranger inside me so I could pay for my next meal,” she began her very emotional and raw speech.

Although Halsey did not go into detail, the singer did dish more about her struggle, including making it clear her parents loved her but did not understand her.

“It wasn’t because I did something bad. It wasn’t because something was wrong with me, and it wasn’t because my parents didn’t love me because they did very much. But a series of unfortunate circumstances lead me to be in that position, and it can happen to absolutely anyone,” she continued.

Along with sharing that she almost succumbed to prostitution, Halsey also took time during her speech to remind everyone how imperative it is to help the homeless. People should help those less fortunate not because they might turn into a celebrity, such as she did but rather because those people are something right now, despite their circumstances.

For those still living on the streets, it is not about arts or crafts. It is life or death for them. Everyone deserves a chance to uncover their potential, to achieve their dream and Halsey will continue to spread that message about homeless people. The singer knows first-hand what it is like to be homeless. Therefore, she intends to use her platform to help in any way possible.

Halsey considered a life of prostitution, while a homeless teen. She chose not to move forward with it but not everyone living on the streets is giving the option of saying no. Her admission was to remind people that those living on the streets need help now and continually.
