Here's How Catfish Will Be Different This Season -- Plus Nev Schulman Explains Why He's Grateful For The Show As A Father

Catfish the TV show has been airing for nearly a decade now. In the year 2020, Nev Schulman continues to find people who are talking to other humans that may or may not be the person they portray to be online.

The eighth season of the show premieres tonight and there will be a twist. They are taking the cases of the loved ones who feel that their friend, family member, or peer are being lied to by someone they’ve met on the internet.

Usually, the person who is being lied to writes in asking for help but the host opened up about what made them make the change.

‘Because we found that we were getting so many emails from friends or family members of somebody who couldn’t see, despite their efforts to talk to them about it, wouldn’t listen to and certainly wouldn’t accept that this relationship from the outside looks suspicious. So as a last resort, these friends have reached out to the show and said, ‘You know, I’ve tried to talk to my friends and they won’t listen to me. Maybe they will listen to you!’ he told Hollywood Life.

Schulman went on to say: ‘It has been interesting because we would have them come into the episode and immediately convince the person to let us help them, unlike other seasons where they themselves have often reached out. In this case, they are surprised they are hearing from us so that immediately starts each episode with an interesting new dynamic which has been really cool!’

The series has had multiple switch-ups to keep the show from getting stale. From Max Joseph leaving to having a slew of celebrity co-hosts — people are still tuning in to the MTV staple.

Nev is finding a new appreciation for the series now that he is a married father of two. Not only does it give him job stability every time it is renewed but he also hopes that helping other people positively affects his children.

Catfish airs Wednesday’s at 8 p.m.
