It's Time Glenn Close Wins An Oscar

Fresh off her Golden Globes win, Glenn Close is ready for awards season. She is up for a Critics’ Choice best actress award and on January 22, 2018, the Oscar nominations will be announced. Fans everywhere expect Close will land her seventh nomination for her role as Joan Castleman in the critically acclaimed film The Wife. She’s rumored to star in a remake of Sunset Boulevard, but what people are talking about is the fact that after seven Oscar nomination, it’s time Glenn becomes an Academy-Award winner.

In the eighties, Glenn Close was a breakout star and many expected she would have won an Oscar for one of her many roles. In 1982, Close drew critical praise for The World According to Garp where she worked alongside the late Robin Williams, Mary Beth Hurt and John Lithgow as Jenny Fields. She was nominated for best-supporting actress but the win went to Jessica Lange for Tootsie.

She followed with another best-supporting actress nomination for The Big Chill. The movie was a huge success that went on to become a cult classic. The 1983 movie scored three Oscar nominations. Close was the only cast member who was nominated for an Academy Award.

Glenn Close was nominated again in 1984 for her portrayal of Iris Gaines in the movie The Natural. Those three nominations for best-supporting actress wouldn’t be the end of Glenn Close’s dance with the Oscars. Soon, she would receive more recognition and the nominations for best actress started coming in.

In 1987, Glenn Close left an indelible mark in the thriller genre and set a precedent for mentally unstable female characters. Close received a best actress Oscar nomination for her role as the unhinged and murderous Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction.

Close would receive another Oscar nomination for best actress the following year for her work in Dangerous Liaisons. More roles would follow and close moved to television with the hit series Damages while earning a 2011 Oscar nomination for best actress for Albert Nobbs.

Now, there seems nothing more fitting for Glenn Close to grab another Oscar nomination for best actress for The Wife.

While there will be other actresses who have received multiple Oscar nominations (Amy Adams Vice) many are rooting for Glenn Close to not only get her seventh Oscar nomination but to walk away with the golden statue. After 37 years, it’s time Glenn Close wins an Oscar.
