Director James Cameron’s long-awaited Avatar 2 has been delayed again, James Cameron announced on Tuesday. The news came as a shock to fans of the original 2009 film who hoped to see the next installments soon. The delay comes as Disney (who has just acquired Fox) announced their upcoming movie release dates. As Disney plans three new movies in the Star Wars trilogy, Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5 have been delayed.
In addition to announcing the dealy, James Cameron confirmed that actress Michelle Yeoh will join the cast as Dr. Karina Mogue. Returning to their roles will be Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, and Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine. It is believed that Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel, and Oona Chaplin will join the cast.
Avatar 2 was originally set for a December 18, 2020, release date. It has now been rescheduled for release on December 17, 2021. Avatar 3 is rescheduled until 2023, Avatar 4 for 2025, and Avatar 5 is set for release in 2027.

Some fans are shocked that the Avatar sequels have been pushed off so long and some feel there’s a greater chance of humans living on Pandora rather than Earth in 2027!
Disney acquired Fox in March and the latest announcements are a result of that acquisition. Now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Fox, there is no question that television and movies are going to change.
Disney also unveils its new streaming platform Disney Plus on November 12, 2019, and it is going to have much of its new programming available for viewers.
News that Disney would be bringing a new Star Wars trilogy immediately went viral and fans are thrilled to see what they will be. The new Star Wars movies are currently untitled and little information has been revealed about them. All that is known is they are scheduled to be released on December 16, 2022, December 20, 2024, and December 18, 2026.
While there aren’t many specifics available, Disney’s recent acquisitions have sent Marvel cinematic fans and Star Wars’ fans in a frenzy. There is definitely a bright future ahead for those who are patient enough to wait for it.
As for fans of Avatar, their reward will come, but for many, they’d rather it was sooner than later.
