Jane Fonda And Sam Waterston Arrested At Washington D.C. Climate Change Protest

Jane Fonda and Sam Waterston have been arrested by police because of their involvement in a Washington D.C. protest.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news both Fonda and Waterston were placed in handcuffs at a protest for climate change outside the U.S. Capitol building. They were placed in separate vans and later processed at a Capitol Police facility.

Photos of the 9 to 5 star, as well as the Law & Order alum have gone viral on social media. As of now neither Waterston nor Fonda’s reps have released a statement or commented on their protest detainment.

Fonda is making headlines for the second Friday in a row for protesting climate change outside the Capital building.

Last week she was arrested for allegedly unlawfully demonstrating on the East Front of the Capitol. The actress and several others were charged with crowding, obstructing or incommoding, according to a police statement at the time.

The actress has made it clear she will continue to protest and get arrested until her point regarding climate control is understood by congress.

“I will be on the Capitol every Friday, rain or shine, inspired and emboldened by the incredible movement our youth have created. I can no longer stand by and let our elected officials ignore and even worse, empower, the industries that are destroying our planet for profit. We cannot continue to stand for this,” she wrote on her Jane Fonda website.

Sam Waterston and Jane Fonda have been arrested at a climate change rally in Washington D.C. Waterston reportedly told a crowd of onlookers “It’s good to be here,” as he was being detained for the first time.

A reporter asked Waterston why it made sense to get arrested as a way to draw attention to his and Fonda’s cause. The actor replied “I have to do something. I don’t know. You got a better idea?”

The Grace and Frankie costars are both calling for immediate action on the environment with a Green New Deal. Fonda compared the urgency of the deal to that of what occurred during the Great Depression.

“Make no mistake. Changing is coming whether we like it or not, by disaster or by design,” the 81-year-old actress and political advocate shared.

“People say that the Green New Deal is radical. What is radical is climate disruption,” the 78-year-old actor explained at the rally.

One thing is for sure, neither Waterston nor Fonda are backing down until something is done regarding climate change. Fire Drill Friday, as the protests are called do not appear to be going away any time soon.
