Jay-Z And Will Smith Will Work On New Miniseries About The Mother Of Emmett Till

Will Smith and Jay-Z are working together in the creation of a new project, Women of the Movement, which will explore the trials and tribulations of the mother of Emmett Till. Hot New Hip Hop picked up on a statement from ABC this week in which they revealed they had given the two artists a green light for a six-part mini-series.

According to a report from Deadline, the network and Will and Jay’s production teams will re-create the life stories of Emmett Till and his mother, with Marissa Jo Cerar as the writer of the mini-series.

Reportedly, the production will focus on Mamie Till Mobley’s fight to get justice for her son who was killed in the Jim Crow South. Hot New Hip Hop says the new mini-series will be produced by Jay Brown, Jay-Z, and Tyrone Smith of Roc Nation.

Moreover, Will Smith will work alongside Aaron Kaplan from Overbrook Entertainment. Some of the other producers on the project include people like Dana Honor, Michael Lohmann, Aaron Kaplan, Rosanna Grace, and more.

Earlier this year, Cerar said that telling the story of Emmett and his mother is something she “hasn’t taken lightly.” It’s about not only a mother’s love for her son but also the fight for equality and the “bettering of lives of all Black people.”

Will Smith and Jay-Z are obviously two of the biggest stars from the black community. Smith is almost always in the headlines in some form or another, including for his “entanglement” drama with wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, which stirred controversy during the summer months.

It was reported that Will and Jada had actually split up a few years back, and during that time, Jada began a short-lived relationship with the singer-songwriter, August Alsina.

While many praised Jada and Will for their vulnerability, some mocked Will for allowing his wife to see another man, and yet still continue their romance. For instance, 50 Cent put Will on blast through his Instagram direct messages.

Jay-Z, on the other hand, has slowly moved into other areas of different industries, including a partnership with the NFL.
